Amos 9:11,12 coincides and fulfilled in Acts 15:13-18 in the crux of the matter of Jews and Gentiles at the “Jerusalem Council” concerning circumcision:
Amos 9:11,12- “On that day I will raise up The tabernacle of David, which has fallen down, And repair its damages; I will raise up its ruins, And rebuild it as in the days of old; That they may possess the remnant of Edom, And all the Gentiles who are called by My name,” Says the LORD who does this thing… (Obadiah 21- Then saviors (deliverers) shall come to Mount Zion To judge the mountain of Esau, And the KINGDOM SHALL BE THE LORD’S.)
Acts 15:13-18- And after they had become silent, James answered and said, “Simon has declared how God at the first visited the Gentiles to take out of them a people for His name. “And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written: ‘After this’ I will return And will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down; I will rebuild its ruins, And I will set it up; So that the rest of mankind may seek the LORD, Even all the Gentiles who are called by My name, Says the LORD who does all these things.”
Tabernacle of David- signified the ‘Presence of the Lord’, with the only piece of furniture being the “Ark of the Covenant!” The Ark of the Covenant is Christ Himself, the very presence of God, who now resides not only in us individually, but corporately…The tabernacle of David was in Mount Zion, the highest place, the Summit, where we are called to worship in His Presence…
What is the “After this” will I return…? After Pentecost, because it was spoken of David in Acts 2 by this same Simon Peter quoted in Acts 15: Acts 2:29-35- “Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. ‘Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne,”
“he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption. “This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. “Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear. “For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: ‘The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” (Psalms 110:1-3)
What was He talking about and that James agreed with and declared in Acts 15?
This was of course, the birthday of the church, the ecclesia of Jesus Christ, that He Himself declared that He would build, and not even the gates of Hell (power of death) would be able to prevail! (Matt. 16:18,19) The true church, the ecclesia, is the tabernacle of David “REBUILT” and because of the ‘Patriarch David”, He would raise it up from the ruins (the Jewish system) repair and restore it, and re-build it an in the days of old! (Galatians 6:15,16- For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.)
It is now through the blood of Christ that He Himself has brought peace, who, at that time we were without Christ (no peace), being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having NO HOPE and without God in the world. He has Himself made both ONE (Jew and Gentile, circumcision and uncircumcision), and has broken down the middle wall of partition (separation)…and has created in Himself ONE NEW MAN (the Israel of God) from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them BOTH TO GOD IN ONE BODY (the church) through the cross,…(Ephesians 2:11-18)
Ep. 2:19-22- Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and with the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles (12 apostles of the Lamb) and prophets (the patriarchs), Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building (church), being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together (the body) for a dwelling place (habitation) of God in the Spirit.
What does the tabernacle of David look like today and how do we inherit the kingdom?
I. Peter 2:4-6- Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion, A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame…”
Hebrews 12:22-24- But you are come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly (of Zion) and church of the firstborn (Christ the firstfruits and every man in his own order, conformed to the image of the Son, the revealing or manifestation of the sons of God) who are registered in heaven (born in Zion), to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to JESUS THE MEDIATOR OF THE NEW COVENANT, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of
Abel. (Now, One Covenant, One Church, One kingdom, One people, One body…)
Blessings,
